Tosh Hospital has experience of over a decade in providing advanced stem cell therapy for knee arthritis. Our treatments have evolved over time with collaborative efforts from international pioneers in the field. TOSH has successfully treated numerous patients suffering from arthritis, not only at an early stage but also at advanced stages. Stem cells have a special ability to repair and create new tissue. This novel treatment utilises this unique ability and works to repair the damaged knee tissues, improve joint movements, and reduce pain.

Knee Conditions Treated with Stem Cell Therapy

Osteoarthritis

This condition involves the wearing down of cartilage in the knee, usually on aging, which leads to pain and stiffness, affecting mobility.

Cartilage Damage

By using stem cells, we can assist in regenerating localised cartilage damage other than osteoarthritis.

Knee Injuries

Stem cell therapy is also beneficial for those dealing with torn ligaments, meniscus damage, and tendon injuries

How Does Stem Cell Therapy for the Knee Work?

Through a key-hole (Arthroscopy), the arthritic portion of the knee joint is scraped and cleaned to remove the worn-out cartilage. Simultaneously, 60ml of bone marrow is aspirated from the hip bone through the needle, it is then concentrated to obtain signalling cells and growth factors. This is mixed with clotting gel and is injected into the knee joint, which is already prepared through a key-hole procedure. The main advantage of this procedure is to retain one’s natural knee by avoiding Total knee replacement surgery, in which artificial metallic implants are used to replace a joint in knee arthritis. The patient is allowed to move the joint fully and is allowed partial weight-bearing walking on the operated leg the same day. This is a day-care procedure where the patient is usually sent home within 24 hours. After 6 weeks of partial weight bearing and rehabilitation, the patient can start weight bearing fully and can get back to a normal lifestyle.
