HIP ARTHROSCOPY

Hip arthroscopy is a surgical procedure to correct the problems of the hip using a small camera inserted inside the joint to visualize the affected part. Incisions or cuts will be made in order to insert the camera inside and other small instruments. Hip arthroscopy is much better than traditional hip surgery in many ways. The main advantages of hip arthroscopy are faster recovery, smaller incisions and reduced stay in the hospital. Hip arthroscopy is not much common as other arthroscopies.

Indications

  • 1. Labral tears
  • 2. Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
  • 3. Snapping hips
  • 4. Septic hips
  • 5. Loose bodies

Surgery

Hip arthroscopy is usually performed under spinal anesthesia. To start with, your leg will be put in traction. The procedures may differ from patient to patient. But, there are elements that are common to all. The hip will be pulled away from the socket in order to insert the instrument.

Post-surgery

After the surgery, you may have to stay in the hospital for a day. The doctor may also suggest you to use crutches or a walker for some period. Most of the cases may require physical therapy. The doctor will suggest you what should and should not be done for the time being. The recovery time depends on the surgery performed
